My Journey Into Holistic Wellness: The Story Behind Room 5 Apothecary

People often ask what inspired Room 5 Apothecary. The truth is that it wasn't a business idea that came first. It was a personal wellness journey. A journey that began with questions, frustrations, fertility challenges, and a deep desire to understand what my body needed.

Like many women, I found myself searching for answers when conventional approaches weren't giving me the whole picture. What started as a desire to improve my health eventually became a passion for holistic wellness, natural living, plant-based wellness, and helping others discover supportive ways to care for themselves.

This is the story behind Room 5 Apothecary and the wellness journey that changed my life.

When Fertility Challenges Became a Turning Point

My introduction to holistic wellness began during my fertility journey. Like many women facing fertility struggles, I spent years searching for answers and exploring every option available. The process was emotional, exhausting, and often overwhelming. When I finally became pregnant with my first child, I felt incredibly grateful, but the experience also opened a new door for me.

Pregnancy made me much more aware of what I was putting into and onto my body. I began reading ingredient labels, researching nutrition, learning about lifestyle factors, and exploring natural wellness practices that could support overall health. What started as curiosity quickly became a passion for learning.

Pregnancy Sparked a Deeper Interest in Natural Wellness

The more I learned, the more questions I had. I was surprised to discover how many products marketed as "natural" still contained synthetic fragrances, harsh ingredients, and chemicals that I personally did not feel comfortable using. At the time, I also struggled with sensitivities to many scented products. Even some popular wellness products irritated my skin. This led me down a path of learning about ingredients, plant-based wellness, and natural alternatives.

Eventually, I began experimenting with making some of my own products right in my kitchen. What surprised me most was that while many synthetic fragrances caused irritation, I found that carefully selected essential oils worked much better for my skin and personal wellness needs. I always avoided lavender because I thought I had a skin sensitivity to it, like other scents, but soon realized my skin sensitivity was from the lavender fragrance plus added chemicals. I started using lavender essential oil, and it had no negative effects on my skin, no skin sensitivities, and no issues at all. That experience completely changed how I viewed personal care products and sparked a lifelong interest in understanding what goes into the products we use every day.

Small Sustainable Changes Created Meaningful Results

One of the biggest lessons I learned along the way was that wellness doesn't usually change overnight. For me, the most meaningful improvements came through small, consistent changes that added up over time. For many years, my menstrual cycles were highly irregular. A typical cycle for me could be around 41 days, and diagnosed with PCOS during my fertility journey, which often left me feeling frustrated and wondering what was happening within my body.

As I continued learning about nutrition, holistic wellness, and lifestyle habits, I began making gradual changes. I first transitioned toward a flexitarian diet, which was only eating meat on the weekend, then to a pescatarian lifestyle and later adopted a plant-focused vegetarian lifestyle. I also became more mindful of meal timing and eventually incorporated intermittent fasting into my lifestyle in a way that felt supportive for my body.

Over time, I noticed something remarkable —my cycles gradually became more regular.

What had once been approximately 41-day cycles slowly shortened and eventually settled into much more consistent 28-day cycles with the vegetarian diet and fasting. While every person's body is unique and individual results will vary, this experience showed me how deeply nutrition, lifestyle habits, stress management, and overall wellness can influence how we feel. These changes didn't happen in a few weeks. They happened over years of researching and learning, experimenting, and making sustainable adjustments that felt realistic for my life.

As my cycles became more regular, I also noticed improvements in my overall energy, emotional wellness, and sense of connection with my body. After requiring fertility treatments to conceive (and sustain) my first two children, I later experienced an unexpected natural pregnancy with my third child. While I cannot say that any one change caused that outcome, it reinforced my belief that supporting the body through nutrition, lifestyle habits, nervous system care, and sustainable wellness practices can create meaningful shifts over time. This experience became one of the foundational reasons I became so passionate about holistic wellness, and taking a variety of courses to learn more so I can help others understand the power of small daily choices.

Learning About Holistic Wellness Beyond Nutrition

My wellness journey eventually expanded beyond food. I began learning about:

• emotional wellness

• nervous system support

• stress management

• slow living principles

• sustainable wellness habits

• environmental wellness

• herbal wellness traditions

I realized that wellness was much bigger than any single diet or product. Holistic wellness means looking at the whole picture. It includes how we eat, how we rest, how we manage stress, how we care for our emotional well-being, and how we support our bodies through different seasons of life, and even how connected we are to spirituality.

Many of the topics I share today—including nervous system support, emotional wellness, slow living, and sustainable wellness—grew directly from my own experiences of learning what helped me feel more balanced and supported. How My Pregnancies Shaped My Wellness Perspective

Each pregnancy taught me something different. With my first pregnancy, I experienced gestational diabetes in addition to hyperemesis gravidarum. With my second pregnancy, I was considered borderline for gestational diabetes and continued navigating significant pregnancy challenges like hyperemesis gravidarum but not the extent of my first child. By the time I became pregnant with my third child, many aspects of my nutrition (becoming pescetarian) and lifestyle had changed . While I still experienced hyperemesis gravidarum on a lesser scale, I did not develop gestational diabetes.

That experience deepened my appreciation for how daily wellness habits can influence overall health and quality of life. Again, every body and every pregnancy is unique, but these experiences strengthened my commitment to learning more about holistic lifestyle practices and sharing that knowledge with my family and others.

Why I Created Room 5 Apothecary

Room 5 Apothecary was born from a simple desire: to create the kinds of products and wellness resources I had been searching for myself. What started with making natural products for my own family eventually grew into a broader vision. Today, Room 5 Apothecary offers personalized, made-to-order plant-based bath, body, skincare, aromatherapy, and wellness products and guides designed to support intentional living —Crafted with plants and powered by purpose.

The digital apothecary was created for the same reason. I wanted to make wellness education more accessible through ebooks, and wellness guides, (journals and practical resources coming soon) that help people take small supportive steps toward better wellness. Many of the lessons I share today are rooted in personal experience, continued education, and a belief that sustainable wellness should feel supportive rather than overwhelming.

A Journey That Continues

“Because wellness begins with awareness, small intentional shifts can create meaningful change over time.”

My wellness journey is still evolving. I continue learning, growing, and refining what holistic wellness looks like in different seasons of life. If there is one thing I have learned, it is this: You do not need to change everything at once. Small sustainable changes often create the most meaningful transformation.

Room 5 Apothecary is where nature meets body, mind, and spirit. Whether you are exploring natural wellness, plant-based wellness, emotional wellness, nervous system support, or simply searching for a more grounded way of living, know that every supportive choice matters. Your wellness journey does not need to be perfect to be meaningful —Your wellness, your way.
